France: Paris...Versailles...Paris
United Kingdom: London
Today's diary by Dan:
Harris was still sleeping. We had breakfast, one egg, one bread, one small glass of orange juice and a big bowl of coffee. Drilling in Metro station. Harris had to use WC. We went to Versailles and visited the palace, hall of mirrors... And we were the only ones there carrying luggage; only backpackers in town. They ran out of audio guides, and Harris and Bern had to share one. We followed some girls to return the audio guides, but they didn't know their way. We ran back to the train station to catch the next train to Paris. Harris lost his Metro ticket. We went to Gare de l'Est to pick up Bern's glasses. But the lady behind the counter said it was not there. After some talking in French, she was able to locate the glasses, but it's at the price of 35 francs to take them. Harris couldn't get back to the Metro, and Dan went around the Metro to validate his Metro ticket so Harris could use it. But the ticket was "smart." It didn't work. We took Eurostar to London, and Harris got sick from the cold air conditioning. We got to London. We could not find a place to stay because of Wimbledon and the strike in Paris. 200+ hotels were all booked. Bern called all the hostels in the book. We got dinner at sandwich shop and they screwed up our room at the Royal Hotel; other people were in the room. The facility was dirty. So we didn't shower.
